The CryEngine-based Amazon Lumberyard game engine has been available for some time now, but many games don't use it. However, this may change once the Amazon brand is changed and opened. It is now called the Open 3D Engine and has become an open source project and part of the Open 3D Foundation.
Open 3D Foundation is the result of collaboration between different developers to support open source projects designed to improve the capabilities of 3D graphics, presentation, writing and development. Open 3D Foundation was founded by the Linux Foundation, and formed by various members, including Adobe, Red Hat, AWS, Huawei, Intel, Backtrace.io, International Game Developers Association, Niantic, Wargaming, and many more.
The new version of the Lumberyard Engine, now called the Open 3D Engine (O3DE), is licensed under Apache 2.0. According to Amazon, O3DE differs from Lumberyard in many ways, including "a new multi-discipline photorealistic provider, an expandable 3D content editor, a character-driven animation system, and an intuitive programming tool."

In O3DE, developers can use a variety of programming languages including C++, LUA, and Create Python games and simulation. For animators, technical artists, designers, and builders in general, O3DE offers a wide range of in-house tools. Bill said. Wass, Technical Vice President of Engineering at AWS. "We believe creating a first-class open source, community-driven option will revolutionize real-time 3D development, as Linux has done for operating systems and Apache for the web."
Despite being five, many CryEngine-based environments have not been used for game development over the years. In addition to the released Amazon games, which include New World, The Grand Tour Game, Crucible and Breakaway, the sole developer of the popular Lumberyard games is Cloud Imperium, the sole developer of Cloud Imperium games. /p>
Open 3D Engine is not officially released yet, but you can download the developer preview. The full version is scheduled for late 2021. p>
