In the second quarter of 2021, Spotify reported better-than-expected results in most major categories, including shared growth, revenue, gross margin, and operating income. The only exception was Monthly Active Users (MAUs), where the streaming giant was below its target range.
For the quarter ended June 30, 2021, Spotify generated revenue of €2.33 billion ($2.75 billion), gross margin of 28.4%, and operating income of $14.14 million. Spotify closed the quarter with a total of 365 million MAU. That's an increase of nine million users over the previous quarter, but more importantly, seven million of them share a premium. Overall, Spotify now has 165 million large subscribers and 210 million users with ad support.
