Rumors: The AMD Zen 4 microarchitecture is not expected to arrive until the end of next year, but rumors and speculations have been circulating for some time. The latest claim is that the Ryzen 6000 processors, codenamed Rafael, will run on a maximum of 16 cores.
The hardware detection tool ExecutableFix tweeted the news yesterday. If true, this contradicts previous rumors from AMD about adding a third chip to Zen 4, which will increase the number of cores to 24. But it seems that we will have to work with "only" sixteen. That's more than Intel offers, and while the future Alder Lake-S blue team has 16 cores, it's a mix of 8 high-performance cores and 8 performance cores.

We expect several significant changes with the reported Zen 4 based Ryzen 6000 chipset based on 5 TSMC nm manufacturing process. They use the AM5 socket which translates from AMD's standard PGA network array design to Intel's preferred Ground Network Array (LGA) design, although the chip is expected to be the same size as 40mm by 40mm. The meters have an AM4 socket. The good news is that your current AM4 cooling setup will likely work with the AM5 via the conversion kit.
We also expect to see support for DDR5 memory and dual-channel PCIe 5.0 memory in Zen 4 with four additional PCIe slots. 4.0 lines in terms of power, the maximum TDP is said to be 120 watts - the Zen 3 peaks at 105 watts - although there have been rumors that at least one SKU will reach 170 watts.
