Virtual reality as a platform is still young and has many limitations. One is graphic resolution and frame rate. There is a delicate balance behind the scenes that delivers the best possible sharpness while maintaining a non-vomiting frame rate. One way to reduce GPU workload and improve FPS is to use some great samples like DLSS or FSR.
Friedrich Holger, CEO of German technology company FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), AMD rolled out at StreamVR. This should help VR titles reduce frame rates without compromising image quality. I've tested it with Skyrim VR and Fallout4 VR and the results look very good. Holger describes the process on his GitHub page. Low resolution rendering is clearly improved by FSR with the goal of restoring some of the details lost due to low resolution. It does this in two steps - the first step is to actually increase the target resolution, since special attention is paid to the edges in the low-resolution image. The second step is a sharpening step to deal with some of the confusion caused by the upgrade.
Compare the original games (left ) and FRS Ultra Quality (right), is open source and not platform specific, so it should work with any GPU as long as the game uses Direct 3D 11. However, be aware that FSR is not an anti-modeling capability. It varies from game to game. Others, but some corrections can help.AMD says to use a high-quality anti-algorithm setting provided by the game when using FSR. Holger recommends enabling multiple sampling if anti-sampling is available, otherwise use anti-sampling time. Configure the display resolution and scale in the config file (openvr_mod.cfg) also searched for. Holger says experiment with these settings to find the right fit for each particular game and install a VR device. Find more detailed tweaks and instructions on Holger's GitHub page. Holger noted that FSR mode does not work with Half-Life Alyx or Star Wars: Squadrons. These two games do not allow the openvr_dll.api file to be replaced. Of course, if he had some time for a walk in nature, he would surely show more problems. Holger asks users to report games that don't work with him, perhaps so he can send patches to the mod if necessary, provided there's a fix for anything that's crashing. p>
