"This world has so much potential to be born again. To be ruled."
It's been a long time waiting for the pandemic, but the official trailer for Season 2 of Locke and Kay has finally arrived. This is a Netflix adaptation of the award-winning comic book series written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Jabba Rodriguez. At the end of 2020, we wrote that the series succeeded in "bringing the legendary key to the house and the dark and fantastical world of comics." I was eager for more stories - and we'll have more, as the series has already been extended for a third season.
(Chapter 1 revealed below.)
After the brutal murder of their father Randall (Bill Hack, an alien), survivors of the Locke family - Nina's mother (Stinkfield Derby, Scandal) and three children arrive at the Keyhouse, home of Ancestors Randall Massachusetts. Soon after he arrives, the younger brother finds a magic key, then another key, and another key, each with their own power. The keys are whispered to those who are allergic to it - and of course Budd, Tyler, and Kinsey can hear it.Read more The Locke and Key series was worth the wait
For example, the Anywhere key means the carrier can turn any door into a port to anywhere it can picture it, while the Matchstick key — exclusive to the Netflix series — sets fire to (and burns itself if someone is stupid enough to get it in their body). The ghost key allows the wearer's soul to leave his or her body, while the head key is placed behind the person to reveal their thoughts and memories. But these keys also target the siblings of a mysterious creature called Dodge (Lisella de Oliveira) who wants to get all the keys - especially the key known as the Omega Key, which opens in the mysterious black cave nearby.Advertising
During season 1, we learn why Randall Locke was away from his grandparents' home: a high school tragedy in which two of his friends were killed. Let's just say it wasn't the "accidental drowning" that killed them, but the property of Dodge's best friend Lucas (Felix Mallard) Randall. Randall and his remaining friends finally lock Dodge into the well—until Ellie (Cherry Sum), in a weak moment, tries to put Lucas (his first love) back in with the Echo switch and puts Dodge back in instead.
The trailer returns to Alcoholics Anonymous after Nina ends up in the tragic events of last season. He struggles with "things that mean nothing to me" - ie, all the supernatural events in Chapter One, which adults quickly forget. It looks like Nina has some long-term memories, or at least a strong expectation that the kids might not be good.
This prediction is correct. "Just because we found a few keys, we think we know everything," he told his siblings. Tyler assures her that they at least know that Dodge is gone - except that Dodge is now getting close to Keynes. "This world has a lot of potential for rebirth," says Dodge/Gabi. "It's time to let go of it and move on." It is clearly the Maker who decides whether the key brings "the greatest good or the greatest evil". Three guesses about which Dodge/Gabi to choose. And certainly thanks to a look at the face of one of the Revolutionary War captain's captains - we'll get some background - most likely a newly introduced character named Frederick Gideon (Kevin Durand), whom Deadline Hollywood calls a "dangerous enemy" of the Locke family.
The second season of Locke and Kay will air on Netflix on October 22, 2021. The official trailer for season two of Locke and Kay will arrive on Netflix on October 22, 2021.
