The 536-horsepower electric sedan is more powerful than the M3. Or even a few years ago, Tesla hit the Model 3 and started eating the Series 3 lunch. But now there's a battery-powered electric car that can change that for BMW, in the form of a five-door fastback sedan called the i4.
BMW has recharged its power supply efforts after an initial advance and then a slight change. Last month, we went to Germany and rolled into the auto industry's latest flagship, a tech-packed SUV called the iX. But the iX isn't the only new BEV that BMW is working on, and we have to spend a day with the 65,400 i4 M50 for $65,900. The i4 is BMW's first electric car to feature the legendary M model, with an electric motor wrapped around the beautiful chassis of the 4 Series Grand Coupe. the less powerful i4, good for a range of up to 300 miles.But between the i4 M50's higher output, the wheels and tires Bigger and wider, it loses some of that value for its estimated 245-mile (394 km) EPA range. (To our international audience, the WLTP range estimate, much like American driving styles, is 521 km for the M50 and 590 km for the eDrive40.)
These estimates seem reasonable based on the range they reach. Power consumption in our i4 M50 test. During the 267 miles (430 km) and 8 hours the car used 2.6 mph (23.7 kW/100 km), keep in mind that all of these miles were driven in Germany and included running .140 IS. miles per hour (225 km) on restricted highways.
When it's time to charge, the i4 accepts DC fast charging up to 200 kW via the industry-standard CCS plug-in. BMW says charging from 10 to 80 percent using a 200 kW fast charger should take 31 minutes. For normal and slow AC charging, 10 to 100% charging is expected from charging mode thanks to the 114 kW i4 charger.Zoom in / 200 kW DC fast charger i4 battery lasts 10 to 80 % charged in 31 minutes.
