Why it matters: Just two months ago, 65% of the world's population, or about 5.17 billion people, had the internet available. This rate has increased by 10% since the beginning of the year, and as epidemics continue to spread in our daily lives, it is not surprising that humans in general produce large amounts of digital data. But how much is happening on the Internet, even within a minute, will probably surprise you.
A new infographic from cloud software company Domo sets the record straight. According to the company, 5.7 million searches are performed on Google every 60 seconds. In addition, Facebook users share 240,000 photos per minute during the same period, while Instagram users send 65,000 photos per minute.
On Discord, 668,000 messages are sent per minute in addition to 12 million iMessages. Slack users send an average of 148,000 messages per minute, while Teams reaches 100,000 users per minute.
Media consumption is amazing. Every minute of the day, Netflix users stream 452,000 hours of content and YouTube users stream 694,000 hours.
Shopping section About six million people shop online every minute. On Amazon, customers spend an average of $283,000 every 60 seconds. On the Venmo PayPal app, $304,000 changes per minute, and on Instacart, grocery buyers spend $67,000 per minute.
And I think somewhere, someone is storing every bit of this information. TechSpot feature is found where we share smart, funny or interesting content from all over the web.
