https://safirsoft.com Developer destroys widely used JS libraries in protest of corporate use without compensation

Hot Potato: Open Source Software (OSS) comes in a variety of flavors. Some of them are mega projects developed and maintained by thousands of volunteers. Others are smaller apps that may only be supported and run by a GitHub share developer. Since large companies sometimes use open source software freely, there is disagreement over whether these companies should contribute financially to society.

It appears that an open source developer is deliberately frying up two great JavaScript libraries. Committing to faker.js and color.js caused the apps they used to stop in an infinite loop.

Developers use the faker library to generate fake text data for testing or demo while colors add color to JavaScript. Consoles use thousands of apps in these generic packages, with about 2.5 million downloads per week and 22.4 million downloads again per week for color.

Marak Squires, developer of the two libraries, has released version 6.6.6 faker in which it was loaded. GitHub and NPM log early last week. The colors "v1.4.44-Liberty-2" were implemented on Saturday. Both updates cause the same behavior. When "Liberty Liberty Liberty" is called, it comes out from the first three lines after a string of Zalgo text representing the American flag. The colors have since been fixed, but they remain more fake in version 6.6.6. Developers using faker must revert to the latest valid version (5.5.3). I have 100 projects. #AaronSwartz pic.twitter.com/zFddwn631S
