McAfee's latest digital security report on ransomware attacks shows staggering numbers. The computer security provider provides details on various topics. However, one issue that emerges is how intense ransomware attacks are on a particular group and type of target.
Computer security company McAfee recently released its October 2021 Advanced Threat Investigation Report. One of the topics that will be examined is the ransomware attack statistics that the company identified in the second quarter of this year. In terms of the number of detections, the top 10 ransomware groups were RansomeXX, Ryuk, Netwalker, Thanos, MountLocker, WastedLocker, Exorcist, Conti, Maze and in the first place REvil. Over the summer, REvil, better known as the Kaseya Technology Management Platform, and through it several other companies, requested $70 million to decrypt the victims' files. McAfee numbers show that REvil, using Sodinokibi ransomware, was responsible for 73% of ransomware identification from the top 10 groups in the second quarter of 2021. According to McAfee, governments were the most popular, followed by telecommunications, energy, and media. .
