The total number of global launch efforts has doubled over the past decade
There is no official record of such issues, but many good online sources provide a range of data that includes launch efforts and successes. According to this information, a total of 144 orbital launches were carried out in 2021, of which 133 were successful. This total does not include the two surprise launches of the Iranian Simorgh. from 139 attempts) and a previous record of success in 1976 (125 successes from 131 attempts). p>
The busy year of 2021 includes a rocket renaissance. The total number of global launch efforts has doubled in the past decade. From 2000 to 2010, government and commercial operators launched an average of fewer than 70 orbital missiles per year.
Two major changes since then have been the dramatic rise in the Chinese government-led space industry. and the explosion of SpaceX that launched the first Falcon 9 rocket in 2010. Smaller contributing factors include the emergence of other new businesses, such as the US-based Rocket Lab, which launched six times in 2021.
Prior to 2010, it was China averages less than 10 missiles per year. But over the past decade, the country has expanded its military space programmes, launched observation and communications satellites, embarked on an ambitious program to explore the moon with a robot and launch a next-generation space station. The country also has a budding commercial space industry. In total, the Chinese government and a few private companies launched 56 missiles in 2021, 53 of which were successful. The Internet constellation SpaceX launched 31 Falcon 9 rockets, all of which were successful. Perhaps most importantly, the company did so using only the first two stages of the new Falcon 9—the remaining 29 launches were performed by previously flying Falcon 9 cores. Thus, 2021 was the year when SpaceX showed that the "certain flight" had outgrown a marketing ploy. p>
The Falcon 9 rocket helped the United States achieve 51 orbital launches in 2021. That was 48 successful launches. . Rocket Lab, followed by United launch Alliance, Astra, Northrop Grumman, Virgin Orbit, among others. Russia, Europe and India brought together the major players in the global launch effort last year. Great / Russia, global launch market dominated. CSIS
This does not include the submarine launch effort led by Blue Origin in 2021. The New Shepard launch system flew six times in 2021, including three human spaceflights. The company is likely to double this number by 2022, as the demand for space tourism services appears to be high. p>
In the case of an orbital launch, 2022 may be more witness to the former. China and the commercial space industry are showing no signs of slowing down, and SpaceX will continue to raise its Starlink satellites. This year should be eventful for the first big rockets, too. There may be 150 orbital launches this year. p>
