SpaceX's first civilian spaceflight is scheduled to launch this evening from Launch Complex 39A of the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The four civilians aboard the Dragon spacecraft will be sent into space by a reusable SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and will be in orbit for three days for one of several potential landings off the coast of Florida.

The plane is rented by billionaire Jared Isaacman, who donated two of the four seats to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, earlier this year. The hospital provides free services to children and teens battling cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

St. Judd won one of the seats in the draw and offered the other seat to the hospital's front-line employee, 29-year-old Hayley Arsenault. By flight, a bone cancer survivor becomes the youngest American in space. The crew will be launched into a 575-kilometre orbit — more than any other human since the Hubble missions. For reference, the International Space Station is located in an orbit of 408 km, and the height of Hubble itself is about 540 km.

During their orbit, the crew orbits the Earth about 15 times a day. Most importantly, they conduct scientific research that can help advance human health here on Earth and during long spaceflights.

The launch window is scheduled to open at 20:02. East and will remain open for five hours. SpaceX will begin broadcasting approximately four hours before launch and will be available on YouTube. In the meantime, check out a one-hour Q&A session with the Inspiration4 crew above.
