What to expect: An international team of astronomers has observed for the first time light from behind a black hole. Future observatories, such as the Advanced High Energy Astrophysics Telescope (Athens), should provide high-resolution images with much shorter viewing times.
This is the first time that astronomers have seen light directly behind a black hole, and it also agrees with Einstein's theory of general relativity and reconfirms his predictions.
The research team's findings were recently published in the scientific journal Nature.
