Best GPU of 2017 in 2021: Revisiting the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

Shopping Shortcuts:

Today we get a fresh look at the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, because every time we make one of these GPU appointments we get dozens of requests for a 1080 Ti review, so go here. Fortunately, I really enjoy seeing previous generation GPUs, and playing them in multiple games to see how they work.

As a quick upgrade, Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 Ti was released in early 2017 for $700 (see our original review), which at the time was a huge amount for a game's graphics card. Tighten Oh, how the time has changed.

Despite the price, the 1080 Ti still gives gamers great value, great performance, and a generous 11GB of VRAM.

If you look at the latest benchmark data used in our GPU review, between the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3080 Ti, and Radeon 6600 XT Let's face it, the GTX is still 1080 Ti delivers 1440p gaming graphics, averaging 93 fps in 12 games used in our first day review.

This is 6% faster than the Radeon 5700 XT, but 18% slower than the Radeon 5700 XT. The 6700 XT Then, compared to the current generation of so-called $700 components, which include the RTX 3080 and 6800 XT, the 1080 Ti is more than 60 percent slower, but that's to be expected after four years.Data logged using a Ryzen 9 5950X test system with 32 GB of dual-channel DDR4-3200 CL14 memory. In this review, we're using the same test scheme, but we're covering 31 games in 1080p, 1440p and 4K resolution.

While the 2060 Super and 5700 XT dropped below 60 fps, the 1080 Ti did well over 60 fps during testing, a pretty impressive result for the old flagship GeForce. GeForce GTX 1080 Ti review: "class="b-lazy">

In Red Dead Redemption 2, the 5700 XT performed much better and matched the GTX 1080 Ti at all resolutions. The 1080 Ti runs at 60 frames per second at 1440p, so using these settings is better at 1080p

Resident Evil Village coming out in 2021 Here's a better 5700 XT than the GTX 1080 Ti and 7- it offers 8% more performance in 1080p and 1440p. Nevertheless, the 1080 Ti was very impressive, showing more than 80 fps when tested at 1440p.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order is another Unreal Engine 4 title, although the Radeon GPUs perform slightly better than what we saw in Biomutant. However, the GTX 1080 Ti was 6% faster than the 5700 XT and 21% faster at 1440p.

Days Gone is also interested in the GTX 1080 Ti, and that's another Unreal 4 engine. Although the 5700 XT and the GTX 1080 Ti were comparable at 1080p, the The GeForce GPU works with it at 1440p, and at all times in our testing, it leads by 15% at over 70fps.

Next, we have Cyberpunk 2077 and please note that we have updated our benchmark for this title and are moving out of the highly populated NPC area. Here these GPUs had a problem with 1440p resolution and definitely not able to provide 60fps experience, so you have to reach 1080p, and please note that we are not using the maximum graphics. Interestingly enough, the GTX 1080 Ti was slower than the 2060 Super and 5700 XT and failed 13% with the Radeon GPU.

Moving on to Flight Simulator 2020, we've updated all our results for this title after the new patch improved overall performance. The game still doesn't run on older hardware with super smooth presets, but we're seeing a 30%+ improvement for all GPUs.

This allows the 5600 XT to deliver performance that can run at 1080p. The 5700 XT is super smooth at 51 fps. With that said, the GTX 1080 Ti averaged 56 fps at 1080p, which is plenty for this emulator.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is one of our old re-tested titles, but it's still very challenging and looks very good. The GTX 1080 Ti plays 90 fps at 1440p, while the 5700 XT did well at 80 fps, making the GeForce GPU 13% faster.

F1 2021 is the latest game in this category, and while it supports packet tracing, it is enabled by default on the GPUs that support it. Slowly, it's disabled on the RTX 2060 Super, as this is the only GPU that RT has, and instead we don't put it at a disadvantage. I simply disabled it to compare apples and apples. The 5700 XT was 25% faster than the RTX 2060 Super at 1440p, and despite that big margin, the GTX 1080 Ti was 6% faster than the 5700 XT, so it was a solid result for the Pascal GPU.

The GTX 1080 Ti card is amazingly powered by Rainbow Six Siege, delivering an average of 193 fps at 1440p to match the 5700 XT Have. Capable of increasing 100 frames per second in 4K resolution.

For fans of how the 5700 XT and the GTX 1080 Ti compare In tested games, just look at this here.

GeForce GPU leads in half of the games tested with big wins.Games include Valorant, PUBG, Biomutant, Hitman 2, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Resident Evil 3.

Of these, four use Unreal Engine 4 which is not surprising, and while Radeon GPUs may perform very well in UE games - consider Borderlands 3 , for example - it looks like the developer really needs to get out of their way when AMD hardware is optimizing for this popular engine, which is still a problem for Team Red.

If you look at games where the 5700 XT does well and can beat the GTX 1080 Ti, you won't find any Unreal Engine 4 games. Forza Horizon 4 uses the Forzatech engine, Assassin's Creed uses Valhalla AnvilNext 2.0 and Resident Evil Village the RE Engine, Cyberpunk 2077 REDengine 4, Doom Eternal id Tech 7, and Dota 2 the Source 2.

What we've learned

By the end of 2021, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti card is doing very well. The GPU is getting a bit outdated thanks to its large 11GB frame, and will be able to use HD texture packs for some time to come.

Talk about ditching the old Nvidia architectures and not making new optimizations, at least for now, which certainly hasn't happened with Pascal, where the level of optimization looks great for modern titles. All GPUs: The average selling price and availability of a 1080 Ti over the past few months is around $600, which is just $100 less than the MSRP of 4 years ago.

Basically you're looking at the GeForce RTX 2070 for the money, and the 2070 Super usually sells for about $50 more, despite the many interesting features, like DLSS, This small premium is worth it.

In this case, it makes no sense to buy a used GTX 1080 Ti in 2021. Certainly for gamers, the mileage is better than the 5700 XT, which sells for 800,800, probably because this GPU Better to extract, so if you usually have one, you want to sell it and upgrade a faster playing card like 6700. XT.

The GTX 1080 Ti was a tracking GPU Interesting over the years, especially in the used car market. Even when the market was discounted by the 5700 XT and the 2070 Super was readily available, the GTX 1080 Ti held its value well, but it never fell below the $400 at places like eBay.

Right now, we can't help but dream. The GTX 1080 Ti is $350, but if the market goes back to normal, you can expect the second-hand market-leading Pascal GPU to drop.

At the moment, the 6600 XT appears to be your best bet at achieving similar performance to the GTX 1080 Ti, though price and availability depending on location is still Your life seems chaotic… In the US, you can pick one up on eBay for just over $600. While in Australia we were able to buy an RX 6600 XT for about $700, and a GTX 1080 Ti usually sells for over $800. In our day one review, for those looking for that level of gaming performance, the option out there is even better.
