Why is understanding black holes so important? (Persian subtitle)
Black holes are among the strangest objects in the universe. Huge and completely black objects that, according to Albert Einstein's theory of relativity, nothing, not even light, can escape from them. including what is inside a black hole and why are we pulled into it when passing through the event horizon of a black hole?
Many black holes are formed directly after the death of a star that has thrown its shell into space. And their dense core remains. But the exact cause of the formation of many black holes, which are called massive black holes and have a mass of several million to several billion times the sun, is not known. It is estimated that these black holes exist in the center of most galaxies.
- How do forbidden black holes form?
We know that the attraction of other objects by the strong gravity of the black hole, In fact, it is due to the distortion of the space-time fabric by the black hole. Something that disrupts our understanding of known physics on our own planet.
The issue becomes even more strange when we know that according to Stephen Hawking's radiation theory, black holes gradually lose mass over time. Something that is in conflict with another principle of physics, and this has become the basis of many other questions. So far, scientists have succeeded not only in predicting the existence of black holes, but also in extensive international collaborations, in images of them, including record from the central black hole of the Milky Way, i.e. "Sagittarius A".
But why are scientists trying to discover the secrets of these cosmic holes? Can understanding what is inside a black hole reveal other secrets of the universe to us? Maybe not all the questions; But a full understanding of black hole behavior can answer some of humanity's most fundamental questions in the field of physics.
This video from the Economist discusses the importance of studying black holes for humanity and examines it from various angles.
