https://safirsoft.com Android 11 auto-reset permissions feature is coming to older versions of Android

Why it matters: It's understandable for everyday apps to access sensitive information on your phone, like your location, microphone, or camera. However, rare/unused apps with constant access to this information can become privacy. That's why Google uses Android 11's auto-cancellation feature, which resets licenses for apps that haven't worked in a while. Currently, Google has announced that this special feature will be rolling out to all Android 6.0 devices starting in December 2021.

Among the many privacy features introduced in Android 11 was the ability of the operating system to reset apps that had not been used for some time. The user should have installed an app, since it could access sensitive devices like the camera or storage space, run it once or twice, and in the app drawer months ago without being put to use.

To improve privacy, Android 11 detects such apps and revokes their permissions, so that user satisfaction is required upon restart. Until now, this feature was unique to Android 11 devices, but it will soon be available to billions of older phones through Google Play Service updates.

Permissions are automatically reset on the following devices: Devices with Google Play Services that have a version between Android 6.0 (API level 23) and Android 10 (API level 29). All devices running Android 11 (API level 30) and above.

Permissions are reset by default for apps targeting Android 11 or later. User can enable automatic reset for apps targeting Android 6.0 (API level 23) or higher manually. There is no change in the current behavior. Applications can ask the user to disable automatic software reset. There is no change in the current behavior.

As Android OEMs are quick to install to bring the latest OS versions to modern phones, no matter which ones are performing perfectly and have reached the end of their lifespan, we are glad that Google has taken action and this feature is giving privacy to a large portion of the Android user base.

The company notes that this feature is enabled by default for apps targeting Android 11 (API level 30) and can be used for those with API levels 23 to 29 and the target is activated manually. . Also, software that enforces corporate security policies is exempt, which means that end users cannot revoke licenses in such environments.

Google has been scheduling this feature since December 2021 and expects it to reach all Android devices between 6.0 and 10 by the first quarter of 2021.
