Ilya Sachkov is the founder of Group-IB, which specializes in preventing ransomware attacks. On Wednesday, a Moscow court ruled that the founder of one of Russia's largest cybersecurity companies has been arrested on charges of treason and will be held for two months in a notorious prison run by the security services.

The charges against Ilya Sachkov, founder of Group-IB, were classified, the details of which were not immediately disclosed. The state news agency TASS quoted an unnamed source as saying that Sachkov denied passing classified information to foreign intelligence services. But he said he did not know why Sachkov was arrested.

"Group-IB is confident in the CEO's innocence and business integrity."

Dmitry Volkov, founder of the IB Group, takes command of Sachkov.

Another government news outlet, RIA Novosti, reported that researchers searched Group-IB's office in Saint Petersburg and other undisclosed locations. Wednesday. The Singapore-based company is the official partner of INTERPOL and Europol and has hosted top international law enforcement officials at its conferences in Moscow. Its private clients include BP, Microsoft, DHL and several large Russian state-owned companies. "Group-IB's decentralized infrastructure allows us to maintain the security of our customers' information, conduct business, and work without interruption in our offices in Russia and around the world," the company said. President Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday that Sachkov's arrest "has nothing. To deal with business and investment in our country," Interfax reported. According to Mediazona, an independent news website covering the Russian criminal justice system, nearly all contacts with foreign organizations are considered potential treason, and they have multiplied fivefold since 2009. A security official was sentenced to 22 years in prison for treason for passing information to the United States. A former senior director of Kaspersky Lab, Russia's largest cybersecurity company, was sentenced to 14 years in prison in the same case, the details of which have not been disclosed.
