The Amazon Kuiper project has hired new employees after completing the Facebook satellite project.

Facebook has sold its small satellite Internet division to Amazon and said it has no intention of becoming an Internet service provider. Amazon and Facebook confirmed the Ares sale today.

The information initially stated that "Amazon has acquired a team of more than a dozen wireless internet experts from Facebook in an effort to advance its multi-billion dollar effort to launch thousands of satellites... The workers are in the Los Angeles area." Physicists as well as optical, prototyping, mechanic and software engineers who previously worked on their LinkedIn pages in aerospace systems and wireless networks. The employees reportedly moved to Amazon in April. Facebook applied for a license from the FCC to launch a low-earth satellite in 2018, but the company described it as a small research and development experiment and did not do so. To provide Internet services. Facebook said today: Our plan to launch a constellation of satellites is not to become an Internet service provider, a mobile operator, or a technology vendor. We have long believed that satellite technology will enable next-generation broadband infrastructure. As part of our ongoing communication efforts, the team has focused on designing and testing new ways to improve satellite communication using optical communications, radio frequency systems and solutions, and we are really proud of this team. We do and we are excited to see them. What will they continue to do [on] Amazon]. Amazon plans to launch a constellation of low-earth satellites to compete with SpaceX. Starlink service, but Amazon's "Project Kuiper" is a long way from a SpaceX investment. Amazon assured Ares that "a small number of employees got in touch with Facebook, and they moved on." The team came to Amazon earlier this year to work on the Kuiper project.” Amazon declined to comment further on what employees at Kuiper will do. SpaceX currently serves more than 10,000 beta users of more than 1,500 satellites, and the company says nearly global coverage. In August, it agreed Amazon has announced the launch of 3,236 satellites into low orbit. It owns land and says it plans to invest more than $10 billion in the project. But the company has not said exactly when it will launch the satellites or provide services. Amazon says it has more than 500 employees working on Project Kuiper, Its website lists more than 200 job openings in the sector.Amazon told Ares last month that the year 2023 is the first thing it expects to launch satellites.Federal Communications Commission rules give Amazon six years to launch and operate 50 percent of its licensed satellites, Which means the company needs to launch 1,618 satellites by July 30, 2026. He told the FCC that after launching the first 578 satellites, it plans to provide broadband to customers. Today, following the sale of the satellite team, Facebook continued to "work with our satellite operator partners to expand Wi-Fi connectivity" in collaboration with Eutelsat on the Sub-Saharan project. Facebook said it has also been involved in other collaborations, such as the Telecom Infra project, and "we believe these infrastructure investments will have a positive impact on the satellite industry, especially as it expands connectivity to rural and inaccessible areas."
