Editor's note: Tidal's subscription-based music streaming service has revised its membership offerings, added a free row, and split its HiFi catalog in two. For most people, the standard HiFi should be of sufficient quality. If you don't have an audio system that can convey the finer details that Layer Plus can give you, there's no point in paying extra for it.

A new free tidal level, available to US listeners today, gives access to the company's entire catalog, which includes more than 80 million songs and a "limited interval" playlist. Playback quality is limited to 160kbps, however, Tidal says it's a good compromise between data usage and audio fidelity.

For those interested in quality content, Square owned Tidal now offers two cash tiers. The HiFi level, priced at $9.99 per month, offers songs in FLAC-free format with a maximum speed of 1,411 kbps. This level completely removes ads and allows offline listening with unlimited hops.

Meanwhile, the HiFi Plus tier asks for $19.99 per month for access to Master Quality Voice, Dolby Atmos, Sony 360 Reality Audio, and HiFi, with a maximum speed of 9,216 kbps.

All three tiers have access to a song library, and Tidal said it plans to expand the free tier to other markets in the future. Financial commitments, try it for a month, and there's an import feature to help move your playlists from other services to Tidal.
