Large Image: Apple founder Steve Wozniak teamed up with former Apple engineer Alex Fielding to start a private space company. Based on the little information we know about this company so far, it seems that this startup is only related to the sustainability of the space.
The goal of Privateer Space is to maintain security and access to space for all humans. In a YouTube teaser, the company stated, "Caring for what we have so the next generation is better together." Announcing the launch on Twitter, Wozniak said the company "will not be like anyone else."
So what does all this mean? This is just another private space company in the same category as Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic or SpaceX. But the wording used in the video and Wozniak's own confession seem to be unparalleled.
On Twitter, Fielding said he is very excited to attend the AMOS conference in Hawaii this week. For starters, the AMOS Conference is billed as the premiere scientific conference on Space Location Awareness/Space Awareness. In fact, Privateer Space seems to be all about the stability of space.
In an August press release, a company called Desktop Metal referred to Privateer Space as a satellite company focused on observing and cleaning things up in space.
Wozniak and Fielding have worked together before. In 2002, the two companies founded Wheels of Zeus, which developed GPS-based tracking tags. The company's technology was licensed by Motorola in 2004, but the company closed down a few years later and sold its assets to ZonTrak.
