Future: The Covid-19 pandemic has shown shortcomings in the inventory management approach. Looking to the future, we believe that supply chains are better at maintaining inventory to prevent this error from happening again in the future.

Look no further, but another major component of modern society is the lack of holidays. NBC News reports that, like computer chips, packaging materials made of paper, plastic and cardboard are in short supply, and prices are rising.

Andrew Hogginson, Global FMCG Partner, Retail and Purchasing at Infosys Consulting It's all about supply and demand. In this case, you have a limited supply of raw materials and increased demand.

You ask how did we get here?

< This is really a chain reaction that started with Covid-19 quarantine orders last year that slowed production at production facilities. People are also changing their shopping habits and ordering more products online to avoid interacting with others in public. This only increased the demand for packaging and shipping materials.

And let's not forget the winter storm in Texas in February that shut down plastics used as transportation materials. This has led to porters increasingly turning to alternatives such as cardboard and paper, which has added to the strain on the supply chain. Then there is the transportation crisis, which slows down imports of goods such as pulp from China.

Hagginson thinks this holiday season is going to be a hit for everyone.
