We have no reason to doubt Amazon's sales claims, but that seems to be only half the story.

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Amazon has a dirty little secret that has dogged it for years.

Internal documents found by Bloomberg show that Amazon is a serious secret. Data on data usage issues shows that for several years now, 15 to 25 percent of new Alexa users have been inactive in their second week of use.

The data cited by Bloomberg includes holiday sales, which likely means that a large portion of the new devices will be received as gifts. These users probably never wanted to start an echo with it and just associate it as a kind gesture to the giver.
