Apple's new MacBook Pro has been hailed as gaming paragon with support for the M1 Pro and M1 Max, but the Cupertino still has a long way to go to dominate the US laptop industry, trailing HP and Dell in popularity.

According to a global consumer survey from Consista (via Finbold), Apple captured 24% of the US laptop market by October 2021. This puts it in third place after second place. Dell (27%) and the leading HP company with a 35% stake.

At the bottom of Apple, Acer is 13%. It is followed by Lenovo (12%), Asus (8%), Microsoft (8%) and Samsung (7%).

Data from a survey conducted between July 2020 and September 2021 on 4,792 US participants ages 18 to 64. The relatively small sample size means it may not be entirely accurate, but it still reflects well on the US laptop scene.

At its fall event, Apple showed off the new MacBook Pro / Max 14 and 16 inches. Last month. Like the Macs with the M1 before it, these machines have been praised by reviewers and users alike, suggesting Apple could challenge Dell and HP for the lead in the next few months.

But there is an element. What Dell and HP have in their favor is that their laptops are quite affordable. Pricing for the new MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 for a 14-inch model and goes up to over $6,000 if fully specified.
