https://safirsoft.com AMD may introduce dual-socket performance for its Threadripper CPUs
Late last week, AMD released a report outlining the features and specifications of the 5000 Threadripper Pro series processors. It was said that all five models will have sockets. Shortly thereafter, two Threadrippers appeared in the PassMark database that meet the standard in dual-socket mode — but they're not 5000 series.

Instead, they were two of the Seventeen Months 3000 Series:3995WX. In theory, since the CPU shares its hardware with the 2-socket Epyc 77x2 series, the 3995WX only avoids the dual-socket mode with software limitations.

Both CPUs scored 123631. 35% above the average score of 3995WX, and the highest score for two paired CPUs in the database.

If the result is real, apparently, it's likely only one. The culprit: AMD itself. It is very unlikely that the other party will be able to successfully replace the two CPUs, each priced at around $8,800, and the motherboard required.

Best guess is why AMD is testing with their old CPUs. They discovered that the creation of the first sWRX8 dual-socket motherboards for the 5000 series raised questions about their compatibility. Updating the microcode could enable dual-socket performance on 3000-series CPUs, although AMD has little incentive to do so.

However, AMD at least has an incentive to activate it has the function of sockets in 5000 series. In the past, this led to cannibalism in the Epyc series. This is one of the main features that distinguishes these two product lines. But from 2022, the Epyc chain will be an entire "generation" of Threadrippers, using at least one newer architecture, if not a newer node.

The above were purchased by Igor's Lab. Its contents were not disclosed beyond a few matches with other information, but Igor's laboratory is a reliable source. However, specifications sometimes change before processors are announced. Possible specifications Threadripper Pro 5000-series 5995WX 5975WX 5965WX 5955WX 5945WX Cores/Threads, 2.70 GHz, 3.60 GHz, 3.80 GHz, 4.00 GHz, Core Clock 4.10 GHz 2.25 GHz, 2.25 GHz, 2.70 GHz, 2.70 GHz, 2.70 GHz , 2.229 GHz, L 2.229 GHz L 2.229 GHz 8K 6K TDP at 280W Boosted TDP 229 W 190 W 171 W 152 W 138 W

According to Igor Labs, there are now only Pro versions ("W" ) of processors. This year, there are five, out of four. It was added from a 24-core model.

In general, the specifications of these processors are not much different from previous generations. The clock speed of all cores is in some cases a few hundred megahertz more or less, but it is almost the same. Only their single-core speeds are continuous upgrades from 250 to 350MHz.

Like the Ryzen 5000 series, the biggest upgrade under the hood: Zen 3 architecture. In our testing, it can increase IPC performance by 10-20% in different software. It may offer a bigger upgrade on models with higher cores that benefit from large in-core latency and cache, which is much better than the Zen 2 3000 series architecture.

But most likely if it does, running two sockets is what cause sales. It's interesting to see what 128 unlocked cores can do.
