The app focuses on what Notepad does best: simple editing of plain text files.
Windows 11 is gone, but the process of updating internal applications for the operating system continues. Over the weekend, images were revealed of a redesigned Notepad app that's now showing up and working since Windows XP was released two decades ago (although the update covers new features). Added support for the finish line style used in Linux and macOS text files.
The screenshots were posted and deleted by Microsoft Engineer but kept on Twitter by FireCubeStudios, and they show that Microsoft didn't invent Notepad in the style of more advanced apps like Notepad++ or Emacs. Screenshots show fewer options with more touch edges in between as well as theme options and a different default font set. There is also a "Classic" mode for opening files, although it is not yet clear how it differs from the default experience.Ad Dark Note Leak appears from dark mode support (not shown here but refers to "Theme application"), in addition to the ability to change the default font. The incomplete state of Windows 11 internal apps was a complaint from our full review, and was something that prevented the operating system from being completely up-to-date and fully integrated. Paint has been updated but promised without dark mode support. Updates for apps like Your Phone, Microsoft Whiteboard, media player, and Notepad (currently) have been leaked or announced but not released. Still other built-in apps like Wordpad are similar to Windows 7.
This is a minor complaint and much less annoying than the system required by Windows 11 or some new taskbar undo. But it's good that Microsoft continues to work to make everything look and feel more stable on the operating system. App updates can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store instead of Windows Update, if available.
