Google Ads allows free users to have 24 hours of video chatting, but that's it. To meet the COVID-19 pandemic video conferencing needs, Google Meet quickly went out of its way to offer users a free transaction service: a 24-hour video calling limit for conference calls. Today, 9to5Google confirmed that Google's ubiquitous ads have ended, and that Google Meet now limits free users to group video calls for one hour.

Meet was originally supposed to unveil video calling from its launch in April until September 30, 2020, but Google eventually extended the deadline twice. The new Google Meet monetization plan is presented in these two support documents.

Session host status sets the limit for video calls. Free users can have a one-on-one video chat for 24 hours, conference calls are limited to 100 participants, and last 60 minutes. Within 55 minutes, you will receive a warning message. The Google Money Account offering, Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), has several categories that deal with this. Google Workspace's lowest level - $6 per user, per month from the Startup Level - removes the time limit. The "Business Standard" tier loses $150 per user, $150 per month, and adds additional features like noise cancellation, hand raises, break rooms, and session recording. The $18 Business Plus class adds track attendance and a limit of 250 participants. Google Meet Free Row is a bit more generous than Free Zoom Row, which covers 100 participants in 40-minute sessions, just enough to fill a standard 60-minute calendar set. Microsoft Teams is also setting a 100-person 60-minute limit for free users. Business users probably won't have a problem with the 60 minute limit but 40 minutes, as many companies try to get meetings of less than an hour long anyway. Google Hangouts, the video calling solution that Meet replaced, was free and supported for up to 25 people, with no time limit.
