https://safirsoft.com Google lost the Sonos patent, and began removing the functionality from the speakers
Instead of paying royalties to Sonos, Google sends ratings to customers.

Following an initial ruling in August, the US International Trade Commission issued a final ruling alleging that Google infringed five patents on its Sonos smart speaker. The ruling could lead to some products like Nest Audio, Chromecast and Pixel being banned in the US, but Google has developed ITC-certified software mitigations that remove infringing features from users' products.

Sonos originally invented a set of connected speakers to play music, but the advent of voice assistants has led to the permeation of big technology throughout the Sonos world. Sonos says that while Google introduced support for Google Play Music, Google vetted Sonos behind the scenes in 2013. Sonos says Google used this access to "clearly and consciously" copy Sonos features to Google. The home speaker was launched in 2016. Sonos sued Google in early 2020.

“We appreciate the fact that ITC has He definitely approved the five Sonos. The patent in question explicitly states that Google infringes all five. This is a huge gain, and it's very rare in patents."

All Sonos patents deal with tuning and control of loudspeaker groups. Since Google's response to this situation has been to provide a software update that removes or works around patent infringement, in a post on the Google Nest forum titled "Future Speaker Group Changes," a Google representative told customers "Due to a recent decision, we are making changes to the way you set up your devices." And [how] the speaker group function would work forward, if the speaker group feature was for voice control.” In the Google Home app, whether you're using the voice with the Google Assistant or directly on the Nest Hub screen, you'll notice some changes:

Adjust each speaker individually, and you can no longer adjust the volume of the speaker set using the physical volume button. Change your mind. Most speaker ranges should work as expected, unless you have a speaker range that has other brands of Cast-based hardware, such as JBL or Lenovo. They must be sent in version 1.52.272222 or higher. Check out this article on how to find the firmware version for your device or contact your device manufacturer. A small group of users must use the DUA to complete the product installation and update. You may receive a request to download and run DUA to ensure that your device is connected to Wi-Fi and receives the latest software.

We will continue to support our users and work to minimize any additional changes.

Changing the voice is the biggest annoyance on this list. Previously, it was possible to control each triggered speaker using a slider and change the volume of the speaker group to volume. Now, it appears that only individual controls will be available. Google is also removing the ability to control the volume of speaker groups via the physical volume buttons, a feature that was removed early in the Android 12 update. It appears that the speaker group volume can no longer be adjusted through the smart home routine. One user well sums up the client and says, "After you sued Sonos and we paid for it? Either you get better lawyers and win the lawsuit, or you pay Sonos fees, or you start making the money." Give customers.

Although Sonos won, the company didn't achieve the outcome it wanted. Sonos is asking Google to pay for its patents, not taking the rug off consumers by removing features of products it's already purchased. It looks like Sonos will continue in pressing Google for that to happen.Sonos' victory statement ends with:

It is possible that Google may reduce or eliminate product features in a way that circumvents the ITC import ban.But while Google may sacrifice consumer experience in an attempt to get around On the import ban, its products will continue to infringe, infringe on Sonos patents for decades, and continue to harm Sonos. On the other hand, Google - as other companies have done before - can pay fair royalties for the technologies it embezzled.
