General 6 watches are slower and more expensive and have older software than the Galaxy Watch 4. Fossil persists even after the arrival of Samsung, and today the company introduced the Fossil Gen 6 watches.
Samsung and Google are partnering with new hardware and software to improve the Wear OS ecosystem, and the two tech giants appear to be dumping small fashion brands like Fossil. The Galaxy Watch 4 comes with the new version of Wear OS, version 3, while Fossil is still using Wear OS 2. Apparently, it will take some time for the fossil to reach Samsung. The company said in a press release that it will be upgraded to Wear OS 3, but there is a link to a Google forum post that says, "We expect our partners to be able to launch [Wear OS 3] in the mid to second half of 2022." This is something like another 10 to 16 months.Advertising
Wear OS 3 combines the best Wear OS from Google and (apparently) the best Tizen from Samsung. If you're on the Google ecosystem, Wear OS 3 comes with a Google remodeling in terms of app support, and there's now a new version of Google Maps and exclusive access to YouTube Music on Wear OS 3. In the Google ecosystem, you probably just need to buy an Apple Watch .) p>
There is also a problem with the device. Qualcomm isn't a good partner for Wear OS and doesn't put much effort into its wearable SoCs. The Wear 4100 was the company's first quick upgrade six years ago, and it was even a lackluster chip at the time. The Galaxy Watch 4 goes far beyond just a competitive smartwatch, with a 5nm dual-core A55 SoC processor which wearable technology can rightly be called the "most advanced art".
Pretty as it has been for Fossils has been filling the power vacuum in the Wear OS ecosystem over the past few years, and now that Samsung has come out, it's digging out a more expensive, slower smartwatch with outdated software. No update for 10 months. For smaller companies like Fossil, it's not really clear what happens to Wear OS. Is this just a temporary hiatus while the switch is happening, or is Google really good at having an original factory like this with an ecosystem? It looks like Google has definitely given Samsung a lot of credit for its Wear OS software.
Fossil's new smartwatches are still stuck in the bad old days of Wear OS
