Apple recently took steps to reverse some questionable MacBook Pro design decisions — a rear HDMI port, an SD card slot, and a row of physical function keys. For many, these changes may eliminate the need to carry additional hardware in the form of dongles, adapters, and hubs, but if you still need third-party hardware, this Satechi multi-component adapter might be worth considering.
USB-C adapter contains 4K HDMI display output, USB-C Power Delivery (PD), and two USB-A 3.0 data ports on a single USB-C connection. But what really sets the device apart from other hubs is the built-in SSD.
Simply Open the cover from behind the dongle to access the development port. According to the spec sheet, a SATA M.2 SSD accepts 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 sizes but does not work with NVMe. Saatchi says the hub is compatible with a wide range of operating systems, including MacBooks, Chromebooks, laptops and tablets.
The center is made of aluminum and measures 5.3" x 1.8" x 0.6". This scales only 3.8 ounces, so it shouldn't add much weight to your laptop bag.
