Highly anticipated: Panic's Playdate handheld gaming machine is up and running. The creator of the odd game promised to produce 20,000 samples for 2021, but apparently underestimated the demand because they all spoke in under 20 minutes.
This will increase for 2022, Banik said, promising to regulate production on demand. From what we've seen so far, they're going to be pretty busy next year.

Unfortunately, the drop in pre-order wasn't without problems. Panicked about some technical issues related to the international order processing system. The company said there was also a minor issue with its inventory tracking system, which erroneously indicates that the device has been sold out to some potential buyers.
Panic is still accepting pre-orders for Playdate, but they've won the ship by 2022. The mobile is priced at $179, including 24 games. It's a little on the minimalist side, with a small monochrome screen and no microSD card slot. Playdate includes a unique manual crankshaft insertion device that is cleverly used in some games.
Initial reviews were mostly favorable, and the multi-dimensional publication described it as a game boy. p>
