Face Palm: This week, a teenager reportedly had access to about a dozen Tesla cars in several remote countries and was trying to contact their owners. The list of things he can do with damaged vehicles is long and dangerous.
Nineteen-year-old IT security expert David Colombo tweeted Monday and Tuesday that he has taken complete control of more than 25 Tesla cars in 13 countries without their owners knowing. He didn't want to reveal exactly how he did it until he reported the vulnerability to non-profit organization Miter. However, Colombo said that was due to the owners' errors, not a security flaw in Tesla's software. So, I now have complete remote control of over 20 Tesla cars in 10 countries and they seem to exist. There is no way to find and inform owners of this...

Colombo said he can look up the exact location of any vehicle, disrupting their security and slowly open their doors. And Windows plays YouTube music and videos at full size, even when you're on the go, and more. While Colombo could not have driven the cars remotely, they could have stolen them if they were in their actual location. Tesla's security team has already told Colombo that they are investigating.

Although Colombo says it's not Tesla's fault, it could still be a public relations problem for the company, making cars more vulnerable. In consumers' minds towards the end of last year, Tesla recalled a large number of cars sold in the United States due to trunk lid issues. The accident could also affect the development of Tesla cars, which are still in the beta stage.
